Creating a cleanroom ISO 5 without interrupting the production line.
One cleanroom tailor-made for ESSILOR's Innovation and Technology Center
As the world's No. 1 in ophthalmic optics and a major player in the field of visual health, the ESSILOR Group has always placed innovation at the heart of its group strategy. The brand is particularly known for its single vision lenses made of polycarbonate with a high organic index, which correct myopia and protect against hyperopia. ESSILOR has placed its trust in VÊPRES for the creation of an ISO 5 room for its Innovation and Technology Center (CI&T) located in France – the brand has 5 CI&Ts worldwide.
Beyond the classic constraints related to the construction of a cleanroom, the teams VÊPRES had to meet two major challenges:
- Setting up the site and working in areas occupied by ESSILOR teams, without breaking the production line.
- Demonstrate responsiveness and creativity in the search for solutions to the difficulties in the supply of raw materials currently encountered.
Air treatment, at the heart of concerns and know-how VÊPRES
The air treatment is carried out using a set of 50 FFUs (Fan Filter Units) of size 12P12 placed on a mesh in order to obtain a mixing rate of 150 vol/h. These FFUs provide permanent filtration of the ambient air to keep the concentration of particles at a very low level, in accordance with the requirements of the ISO 14644-1 standard for an ISO5 class.
The evacuation of internal contaminants is ensured by a set of high-sized return air ducts distributed around the periphery of the room. An air shower has been installed allowing access to the room from the personal airlock.
Vêpres also carried out the fitting out of the personal airlock as well as the repair of the existing industrial floor for the installation of PVC flooring.
Do not interrupt the activity
ESSILOR has entrusted VÊPRES the creation of an ISO 5 room for its Innovation and Technology Center (CI&T) in France without interrupting the production line. Setting up a construction site and working in occupied areas was a challenge that VÊPRES has been able to rise.
