Creation of an ISO 5 cleanroom without disrupting production operations.
A custom-built cleanroom for ESSILOR's Innovation and Technology Center
As the world's leading ophthalmic optics company and a major player in visual health, the ESSILOR group has consistently positioned innovation at the core of its corporate strategy. The brand is particularly renowned for its high-index organic polycarbonate unifocal lenses, which correct myopia and provide protection against hyperopia. ESSILOR entrusted VÊPRES with the creation of an ISO 5 cleanroom for its Innovation and Technology Center (CI&T) located in France – the brand operates 5 CI&Ts globally.
Beyond the standard constraints associated with cleanroom construction, the VÊPRES teams had to address two significant challenges:
- Establishing the work site and operating in areas occupied by ESSILOR teams, without disrupting the production chain.
- Demonstrating responsiveness and creativity in seeking solutions to address current raw material supply challenges.
Air Treatment: Central to VÊPRES' Focus and Expertise
Air treatment is achieved through an array of 50 FFU (Fan Filter Units) of size 12P12, installed on a grid to achieve an air change rate of 150 vol/h. These FFUs ensure continuous filtration of ambient air to maintain particle concentration at a very low level, in accordance with the requirements of ISO 14644-1 for an ISO Class 5 cleanroom.
The evacuation of internal contaminants is achieved through a system of high-capacity air return ducts strategically distributed around the perimeter of the room. An air shower has been installed to facilitate access to the room from the personnel airlock.
VÊPRES also completed the fit-out of the personnel airlock and the refurbishment of the existing industrial floor for the installation of a PVC floor covering.
Maintain operational continuity
ESSILOR commissioned VÊPRES to create an ISO 5 cleanroom for its Innovation and Technology Center (CI&T) in France without interrupting the production line. Establishing a project site and operating within occupied areas presented a significant challenge, which VÊPRES successfully addressed.
