“With VÊPRES, we share common values: proximity, responsiveness, agility, and boldness.”
Construction for URIAGE of a 1,200 m² ISO 8 packaging area.
Franck ANDREU, Director of Industrial Sites for URIAGE.
What are the Various Activities of URIAGE?
Franck ANDREU : All of URIAGE's operations are centered around the thermal water of the same name. The unique mineral composition of this water provides it with hydrating, soothing, and healing properties. Utilized at the thermal establishment for 200 years, it has been fundamental to the development of both the brand and the laboratory, which were established in 1992. The industrial sites, however, were founded in 2002. Dermo-cosmetic activities commenced in Uriage-les-Bains, and the subsequent expansion necessitated the gradual transfer of an increasing number of operations to the Échirolles site over the years.
Today, does the Échirolles site house the majority of URIAGE laboratories' activities?
FA : Yes, at Uriage-les-Bains, we have retained solely the quality control operations, encompassing two physico-chemical and bacteriological control laboratories, alongside the aerosol packaging of thermal water. Approximately ten individuals are employed there. The Échirolles site, conversely, employs nearly 200 personnel and now oversees the entirety of production and logistics activities, in addition to all support functions.
What specific need did the construction of a conditioning zone by VÊPRES address?
FA : Since its inception, the Échirolles site has undergone several expansions. By 2008, the site's footprint had already grown from 10,500 m² to 12,500 m². Upon my arrival in 2015, the site was once again operating at full capacity, prompting my proposal for a comprehensive 9,000 m² extension. This project facilitated the sequential development of logistics, followed by manufacturing. Concurrently, we also restructured our organization to optimize the balance between manufacturing and packaging capacities.
What are the Characteristics of this Packaging Area?
FA : While packaging zones demand less stringent standards than manufacturing areas, they nonetheless require an ISO 8 classification, signifying a controlled and clean environment. Given that we handle potentially contaminable products, adherence to our CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) framework is also imperative. The cosmetic industry is dedicated to minimizing the quantity and concentration of preservatives, which mandates an even more rigorous control over both manufacturing and packaging environments.
Proximity is one of Uriage's core values: did this aspect influence the selection of VÊPRES?
FA : Indeed, this aspect is integral to our CSR initiative, but more broadly, it aligns with our industrial strategy. Generally, we prioritize collaborating with local companies of suitable scale. In this regard, URIAGE is somewhat analogous to VÊPRES: we are both considered 'large SMEs,' fostering mutual understanding. We recognize our respective positions, and our core values emphasize proximity, responsiveness, agility, and boldness.
What values did VÊPRES demonstrate for this project?
FA : Precisely. I was keen to engage with them, having encountered several commendatory articles and received positive feedback from various sources regarding their previous projects. Their proposal was compelling, and beyond the pricing, I quickly recognized their professionalism and exceptional attentiveness. They responded promptly, posing pertinent questions that instilled a high degree of confidence. The project is now complete, and I have no regrets about this decision whatsoever!
Was adherence to deadlines a significant challenge?
FA : It always is! The timelines for this project were, in my estimation, reasonable for completion under 'normal conditions.' However, the challenges stemmed from escalating material costs and supply chain disruptions. This is precisely where the strength of a local, human-scale enterprise lies: its capacity for agility and adaptation to unforeseen circumstances. Accustomed to navigating numerous constraints, VÊPRES demonstrated pragmatism and flexibility, successfully bringing this project to fruition.
Project for URIAGE Laboratories
A large-scale project, spanning 1,200 m², was executed within a very tight timeframe by VÊPRES to fit out the packaging facilities for URIAGE laboratories. (...)
